Is Customer Always Right?

What would you do if your client is taking advantage of you or even abusing you ?
Should we accommodate and tolerate just to keep this client ?
Well, I strongly suggest to go according to the company’s policy and our code of professional ethics.
Recently a client hurled some abuses at my firm for not following its instruction to account for some expenses and Claims for grants. Even threatening to terminate our services. However, we kept very calm.
We didn’t submit to client’s abuse nor comply with its unethical instructions for improper accounting.
We reacted very rationally, with our professional reasoning, quoting various sections of the Acts to support our accounting treatment.
We stood firm. We told this client that we are doing this for its good, to keep its directors away from potential troubles with the relevant government authorities.
Finally, this client relented, and came back apologizing profusely to us after a few days.
Something I never expected, this client complimented us for being very professional at our work.
A sigh of relief indeed.
Another saga which initially turned out bad, but ended raising our profile and professional standing with our client.
