Importance Of Language Communication And Clarity Over The Phone

I was scheduled for telephone conference call with my client’s Group CFO based in Shanghai HQ this afternoon.

My client in SINGAPORE, a Singaporean, is the country director of this SINGAPORE subsidiary of China.

This Country director was quite nervous prior to the call as this call was critical to determine the viability and going concern of this SINGAPORE subsidiary company.

As my firm is currently the outsourced accountant, the Group CFO preferred to speak directly to me to understand the health of the SINGAPORE company as possible further funding from the China Holding company will be required.

This call was also to discuss possible restructuring of the group of SINGAPORE companies.

As I was based in Shanghai for 10 years before, and I was a CFO myself in the past, this conversation was a breeze.

We conversed in Mandarin, and I was able to paint the picture of the SINGAPORE company at point blank to the China Group CFO.

We spoke like long time old friends.

The telephone conference call lasted for about 30 minutes. Many issues which were difficult to be trashed out over the emails due to English and certain technicalities, were finally easily resolved by pure conversation, in Mandarin.

After the telephone conference call, my Client sent me a sincere Thank You message. He also said “I never expected I would get CFO level service for a normal outsourced accounting service job as I am not personally fluent in finance and also not fluent in my command of Mandarin, and ironically the continued survival of my SINGAPORE company actually depends on the level of clarity of this phone call”

It makes my day for delivering another perceived value to my client.
