A Little Sharing On “Entrepreneurship” VS “Employment”
I received at least 5 requests from friends and acquaintances over just last 2 weeks to come out for coffee chats, to help analyze and advise if they should continue in Employment or venture out into Entrepreneurship…
I am not in any way near to success, still far from it, but only achieving more happiness now compared to last time while still in employment as a CEO & CFO, that’s all.
After listening to their stories, my only conclusion is whether they are willing to make short term sacrifices!
Their common complaint is, they may not have a steady income when they venture out on their own.
However, this group of friends and acquaintances have one thing in common, they are all above 40 years old.
I asked them 2 simple questions –
” How long more are you employable? “
” Are you willing to slash your salary expectation by 50% because there are many younger professionals who can do your job much better with vigor and are only expecting 50% of what you want to get? “
Entrepreneurship may be a Leap of Faith, but if you can do it with the correct Mindset ( 破釜沉舟 ), with the help of Advisors ( 贵人 ), the eagerness to absorb New Knowledge to be Relevant, and most importantly, stay very Humble, you will “walk” a path out for Yourself!
Who knows, this new venture may be able to feed you well for the next 20 years if you do it well, and still able to exit with a good business valuation for your retirement!
CHINESE has a saying “工字不出头，出头就成土”. It means there are Limits to staying in Employment. You will not achieve Self Actualization by remaining in Employment. You can certainly be comfortable in your Comfort zone, and that will be it for rest of your life till you retire or worse, until you get retrenched.
Unknown to our own self, God gives each one of us a unique Talent and / or Skill. Very often, this Talent or Skill will only surface when you are pushed to your limit, like venturing out on your Own…
Our brains are only 10% utilized most of the time, it’s time to start using it Now before it’s too late.
